Pre-Buy Inspections

Pre-Buy Inspections

Purchasing an aircraft is one of the most exciting—and financially significant—investments an aviator or business will ever make. However, relying solely on a seller’s recent annual inspection or broker marketing claims can expose you to tens of thousands of dollars in hidden deferred maintenance, undisclosed structural accident damage, cylinder corrosion, expired life-limited components, and non-compliant Airworthiness Directives (ADs). An independent Pre-Purchase Aircraft Inspection by Prop Culture Aviation protects your capital by providing an unbiased, exhaustive technical evaluation before closing escrow.

Engineered for High-Retention Airman Competency

“We pair ambitious student aviators and aircraft owners with experienced mentors in modern Garmin G1000 NXi cockpits and on-site IA maintenance oversight at Olympia Regional Airport.”

Operating out of Olympia Regional Airport (KOLM) in Tumwater, Washington, our FAA-certificated Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) mechanics with Inspection Authorization (IA) act exclusively as the prospective buyer’s fiduciary technical advocate. We do not represent the seller, we do not broker the aircraft, and we earn zero sales commissions on closed deals. Our sole deliverable is the unvarnished truth about the aircraft’s physical, mechanical, structural, and regulatory condition, documented in writing with clear photographic evidence so you negotiate with concrete facts rather than hope.

Our multi-tiered pre-buy evaluation begins with an exhaustive forensic logbook and records audit. We trace the aircraft’s history back to its original factory rollout date, reconciling airframe, engine, and propeller logbooks against tach and Hobbs times. We verify FAA Form 337 major repair and alteration records, search for undocumented gear-up or hard landing repairs, audit Airworthiness Directive (AD) compliance logs, and cross-reference manufacturer Service Bulletins to ensure there are no regulatory surprises that could legally ground the airplane. Missing logbooks or undocumented repairs can crater an aircraft’s resale value by up to 30%, making records forensics an indispensable first step.

Next, our technicians perform deep physical and diagnostic examinations in our Olympia hangar facility. We conduct differential cylinder compression tests, high-definition optical borescope imaging of every internal cylinder wall and valve face, engine oil spectrographic analysis, flight control rigging and cable tension checks, landing gear retraction swing tests, electrical system power-on audits, and carbon-fiber/fiberglass composite tap testing. You receive a comprehensive written technical report categorized by safety-of-flight mandates, airworthiness items, and cosmetic defects, complete with estimated repair costs that give you decisive negotiating leverage to lower the purchase price or require seller repairs prior to closing.

PNW mastery

Real reps over the Cascades, into SeaTac, and across territory instrument pilots in this region fly every week.

Currency for life

Your instrument currency requirements are easy to maintain once seasoned flight reviews, IPCs, and a recurring IFR rental plan keep you sharp.

Your 4-Step Path to Completion

A structured milestone roadmap designed around your schedule, background, and aviation objectives.

Real low-IFR exposure

Marine-layer ceilings, fall rain, fog, and low IFR are unavoidable training opportunities. We turn weather into lessons not cancellations.

Cascade & Olympic terrain

IFR cross-countries over the Cascades and around the Olympics test airway interpretation, oxygen rules, and terrain awareness in actual conditions.

Towered airport from day one

KOLM is towered with ILS, RNAV, and VOR approaches. Real clearances, real ATC vectors, real-world IFR system fluency.

Major-approach training

KSEA, KPDX, KPAE, KHIO Class B, C, and D IFR ops are weekly syllabus destinations, not occasional field trips.

Have Specific Questions?

Speak directly with our Chief Flight Instructor or Director of Maintenance to discuss training schedules, leaseback pro formas, or inspection slots.

Will I really get to fly the airplane myself?
Yes! From the moment you climb into the pilot seat, your instructor will guide you. Once airborne at cruising altitude, you will take positive control of the yoke/stick and throttles to fly straight-and-level, climbs, descents, and gentle turns.

No prior experience or FAA medical certificate is required for an introductory Discovery Flight. All you need is a valid government-issued photo ID (driver’s license or passport) and a desire to experience flying.

Yes. We provide you with a complimentary official FAA Pilot Logbook, and your instructor will endorse your first 1.0 hour of dual flight instruction toward the FAA Private Pilot statutory requirements.

Subject to aircraft weight and balance limits and chief pilot approval, you may bring one guest along in the rear passenger seat for a small additional passenger weight fee. Please notify us when scheduling.

Yes after earning a Private Pilot Certificate, you may be eligible to rent aircraft subject to a checkout flight with our instructors.
Wear comfortable casual clothing, closed-toe flat shoes (such as sneakers), and bring a pair of sunglasses for clear vision in the bright Pacific Northwest skies.
Safety is our absolute priority. If low clouds, fog, or high winds prevent safe Visual Flight Rules (VFR) flight, we will contact you in advance to reschedule your flight at no additional cost.
During your post-flight debrief, your instructor will outline your personalized training roadmap, review ground school options, and help you schedule regular flight slots that fit your weekly routine.
